"Fancy" was one of the nicest mares, who we were privileged to own. She had the most docile, "go with the flow" kind of disposition which she passed on to all of her foals. 

Unfortunately due to the neglect of her previous owners, she acquired ringbone in both front feet at a very young age. With continual corrective shoeing, she was able to get around rather comfortably. However in the past year, getting around had become exceedingly difficult for her. It was even hard for her to hold up her feet for the farrier. We visited our vet, Dr. Michele Weaver of Look Ahead Veterinarian Hospital, and she said there wasn't much we could do for ringbone in that stage. There was no surgery available and our options were limited. She then refered us to UC Davis Veterinarian Hospital with whom we spoke to Dr. Larry Galuppo. We explored all of our options, including doing nerve blocks on her front legs, but the outcome did not seem promising. With the advice of both Dr. Michele Weaver, and Dr. Larry Galuppo, we then decided  it was time to say goodbye.
